For 50 years, Symetra’s stop loss business has grown through strong relationships, shared purpose and a commitment to helping our customers and partners succeed. This summer, we brought our team together to celebrate that legacy and look to what comes next.
More than 200 Symetra Stop Loss employees recently gathered in Denver to mark an important milestone: 50 years since Symetra issued its first stop loss policy in 1976.
The meeting was an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come, recognize the people and relationships that have made that journey possible, and strategize how our teams can continue evolving to support our partners and customers in the years ahead.
For five decades, collaboration has been at the heart of our stop loss business. Bringing colleagues together from across the country offered a chance to reconnect, exchange ideas and reflect on the shared commitment to serving our customers and partners.
Celebrating through service
The meeting also provided an opportunity to carry that spirit of connection into the Denver community.
Through our “Every Connection Matters” service project, 188 volunteers worked together to build 60 bicycles in under 30 minutes for children in the local community and generated $1,880 in volunteer match funds for Wish for Wheels.
It was a fitting way to celebrate a milestone rooted in teamwork: by coming together to make a difference.
Looking towards the next 50 years
Throughout the three days, one theme came through clearly. Our 50th anniversary isn’t just an opportunity to look back, it’s a chance to build on the experience, relationships and commitment that brought us here.
As the Stop Loss team looks to the future, we’re carrying forward a legacy five decades in the making while continuing to evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers and partners.
A legacy of success, a future of possibility
Celebrating 50 years of stop loss is an incredible milestone, but what struck me most in Denver was the energy around what comes next. Our success has always been built on talented people who care deeply about our customers, our partners and each other. We have an ambitious strategy for 2027 and beyond, and I left Denver more confident than ever that this team has the talent, culture and commitment to write an extraordinary next chapter together.”

Fifty years is worth celebrating. And as we honor the people, partnerships and progress that have shaped our story, we’re excited about where we go from here.
