SMS Terms and Conditions

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY. THESE TERMS AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING BY LIMITING SYMETRA’S LIABILITY.
Initiating Service

When you opt in to the service, we will send you security codes via SMS text messages to be used to verify your identity.

You can cancel the SMS service at any time by texting “STOP” to 765-326-4498. When you send the SMS message “STOP” to us, we reply with an SMS message that confirms that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you won’t receive any additional messages from us. If you want to join again, sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

Symetra Life Insurance Company and First Symetra National Life Insurance Company of New York (collectively, “Symetra,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) may modify or terminate its SMS/text messaging services from time to time, for any reason and without notice, without liability to you or a third party. Symetra makes no representations or warranties whatsoever regarding SMS/text messages or this service which is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without express or implied warranties of any kind.

You are responsible for notifying Symetra immediately if you change your mobile telephone number. You can get more information at any time by texting “HELP” to 765-326-4498. When you send the SMS message “HELP” to us, we respond with instructions on how to contact us and how to unsubscribe.

Supported Carriers

We are able to deliver messages to the following mobile phone carriers: Major carriers: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, US Cellular, Alltel, Boost Mobile, Nextel, and Virgin Mobile. Minor carriers: Alaska Communications Systems (ACS), Appalachian Wireless (EKN), Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular One of East Central IL (ECIT), Cellular One of Northeast Pennsylvania, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, Cricket, Coral Wireless (Mobi PCS), COX, Cross, Element Mobile (Flat Wireless), Epic Touch (Elkhart Telephone), GCI, Golden State, Hawkeye (Chat Mobility), Hawkeye (NW Missouri), Illinois Valley Cellular, Inland Cellular, iWireless (Iowa Wireless), Keystone Wireless (Immix Wireless/PC Man), Mosaic (Consolidated or CTC Telecom), Nex-Tech Wireless, NTelos, Panhandle Communications, Pioneer, Plateau (Texas RSA 3 Ltd), Revol, RINA, Simmetry (TMP Corporation), Thumb Cellular, Union Wireless, United Wireless, Viaero Wireless, and West Central (WCC or 5 Star Wireless). Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Symetra does not charge you for text messages, however, message and data rates may apply for any messages that we send to you or you send to us. You will receive one message each time you request a security code. Contact your wireless provider for more information about your text plan or data plan. Autodialer or non-autodialer technology may be used to send the text messages to the mobile phone number you enroll. By signing up to receive text messages, you agree to receive text messages via autodialer technology.

You consent to the use of electronic record-keeping to document your consent to receive text messages.

Release, Indemnification and Limitation of Liability

By participating, you agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless Symetra and its respective affiliates, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors (together, the "Released Parties"), from any and all liability, loss, harm, damage, injury, cost, or expense whatsoever, including without limitation, negligence, property damage, personal injury, and death, which may occur in connection with the SMS service, and for any claims based on violation of law, regulation, or rule; infringement; or violation of any rights of any person or entity, including, without limitation, violation of publicity rights, defamation, and invasion of privacy.

You agree that the Released Parties will not have any liability for, and you hereby waive, release, and agree not to sue the Released Parties for (i) any punitive or exemplary damages, (ii) any reliance damages, (iii) any special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (including, without limitation, lost profits), (iv) any non-economic damages (including, without limitation, emotional distress, emotional discomfort, or mental anguish), however caused and under any theory (including, without limitation, negligence), in connection with, arising out of, or in any way related to, these Terms and Conditions Agreement, the SMS service, or your participation in this service.

Privacy

Symetra uses text-based multi-factor authentication (MFA) as a method to authenticate customers when logging in to their Symetra online accounts.

If you agree to receive MFA text messages to the phone number you provide when enrolling in MFA with Symetra, Symetra will not share the phone number with any third party for that third party's own marketing purposes. We may disclose your phone number to our SMS service provider for purposes of delivering the MFA text messages to you, for other identity verification or authentication purposes, or to comply with legal requirements.
