California AB 1305 Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures Business Regulation Act

Symetra1 defines our business operations’ carbon footprint to fall under the following sections of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol: Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 categories 1-7 and 9.

Our carbon footprint across business operations for the 2025 calendar year will be calculated in coordination with an independent third-party firm and with an additional third-party validator in 2026. Possible carbon offsets for emissions produced in 2025 will be evaluated in 2026.

Offsets purchased in furtherance of goal to reach carbon neutrality across business operations for the following calendar years:

1 This report and the data and information herein refers collectively to Symetra Financial Corporation and its downstream subsidiaries (“Symetra”).

Symetra launched an optional sustainability platform for employees to voluntarily track and self-report their personal sustainability activities. The associated employee self-reported carbon reductions are not counted in Symetra's emissions calculations in any manner. The platform is simply a tool that Symetra made available to employees to encourage them to consider reducing their personal/non-employment related carbon footprint.
