Select Benefits

Swift Notes

We have answers to some of the more challenging issues you face.

I want a simple plan that helps employees manage out-of-pocket costs, and is Health Savings Account (HSA)-compatible.

GapAssist

GapAssist is supplemental coverage—accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity—that won’t affect your HSA.

Three turnkey plans are available (Base, Classic and Premier), each offering the same three coverages but at different amounts. You can offer one, two or all three plans.

I want to offer a plan that provides financial support after a critical illness diagnosis.

Critical illness

Critical illness insurance pays a lump-sum benefit upon the first diagnosis of a covered condition. Benefits can be used for anything participants need as they recover.

Covered conditions include cancer, heart attack and stroke paid at 25% to 100% of the benefit amount.

You can offer the plan to employees only, or add spouse and dependent coverage.

I want to offer coverage that mitigates the cost of accidents.

Accident coverage

Your plan can cover one or three accidents per person, per year, with benefits ranging from $300 to $10,000 per occurrence.

Expenses for eligible medical, dental, surgical or diagnostic testing events resulting from a non-work-related accident are covered.

I want to close coverage gaps in my high-deductible health plan.

Customized fixed-payment gap plans

Pairing a customized gap plan with your high-deductible plan creates a broader medical package that still costs less than traditional low-deductible plans.

The benefits featured in gap plans can help participants meet their major medical deductible, copay and coinsurance requirements.

I need cost-effective coverage that meets the ACA employer mandate.

MEC-Select

MEC-Select provides administration for your self-funded [minimum essential coverage] (MEC) plan, which satisfies the individual mandate and the employer MEC mandates.

The MEC plan pays 100% for covered preventive care when participants visit an in-network provider. The list of federally mandated services include routine check-ups and vaccinations.

The fixed-payment insurance part of the plan (Select) helps reduce out-of-pocket costs for events not covered under the MEC plan.

I want benefits for employees who don’t qualify for my company’s major medical plan.

Fixed-payment insurance

With fixed-payment insurance, you can offer your employees with variable schedules—like part-time, temporary and seasonal workers— access to medical services they might otherwise go without.

You decide which benefits to offer, at what amounts, and how much—if any—of the premium you want to pay.

Benefits can extend to spouses and dependents.

I don’t want any surprises.

The Select Benefits suite of products is not meant to replace major medical or other comprehensive coverage.

Fixed-payment insurance means that benefits are paid at the stated dollar amount. No more, no less.

There are no required networks except in the self-funded MEC plan.

Select Benefits products don’t coordinate with any other medical coverage.
