Symetra® and KJR Radio Bring High School Hoops to Seattle Public Schools TV

Bellevue, Wash. — (Jan. 11, 2007) — Symetra® Financial is teaming up with 950 KJR Radio and Seattle Public Schools to broadcast area high school basketball games on Seattle Public Schools television (SPS-TV). Starting Jan. 13, SPS-TV will air two match ups — one boys and one girls “Game of the Week” — on Saturdays at 8 p.m. and again on Sundays at 12 p.m.

SPS-TV is available on Comcast cable channel 26 in the greater Seattle area and channel 75 on Millennium Cable.

At the conclusion of each game Symetra will honor one outstanding “Symetra Student Athlete” for their performance on the court and in the classroom. The student will also be featured in a post-game interview during the broadcast, and a $100 contribution in the Symetra Student Athlete’s name will be made to their school’s Parent, Teacher and Student Association fund.

Jason Puckett, sports announcer and program producer at KJR will handle the play-by-play calls for the games. He will be joined by Stan Emert, director of corporate social responsibility at Symetra Financial and long-time Seattle Metro League basketball coach, who will provide color commentary and game analysis.

“Basketball is a great sport that teaches kids about teamwork, sportsmanship and self-confidence,” said Emert. “These student athletes work hard every day, not only on the court but in the classroom, and we are excited to help make these games available for the broader community to see.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for KJR and Symetra to be part of Seattle’s tremendous high school basketball program,” said Puckett. “This is a terrific avenue to highlight the outstanding players, coaches, students and community in the Seattle Public School system.”

Additionally, the Seattle Community Access Network (SCAN) is providing generous programming support for the broadcasts, including crew assistance and equipment. SCAN will also re-air the games at a future date and time.
