Symetra Advances Enterprise Risk Management Efforts,
Names Senior Executive to Chief Risk Officer Post
Bellevue, Wash. — (December 8, 2005) — Symetra
SM Financial today announced plans to further enhance enterprise-wide risk management, and appointed chief operations officer (COO) Roger Harbin to serve as the company’s chief risk officer (CRO).
The company intends to build on existing risk assessment procedures to develop a more comprehensive and integrated risk management infrastructure. This includes establishing a broad-based risk management team and creating a formal process for systematically identifying, measuring, evaluating, and controlling risk exposure at all levels of the organization. The company anticipates these moves will further improve the quality and efficiency of risk analysis and decision making within the organization.
As CRO, Harbin will be in charge of risk oversight at the executive level. He will continue to manage the operations and product lines of Symetra Financial Corp. and its insurance subsidiaries as COO. Harbin, an executive vice president at Symetra Financial, has held a variety of senior management positions with the company, including a leadership role on the company’s risk committee. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the boards of state life and health insurance guaranty associations in Washington, Virginia, North Carolina, and Montana. Harbin is also a board member and past chairman of the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations.
