Symetra Financial Marks First Anniversary As Independent Company

BELLEVUE, Wash. — (Aug. 2, 2005) — Today marks Symetra Financial’s first anniversary as an independent, privately owned company. It was one year ago the 48-year-old financial services company was purchased by a group of 22 investors led by White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd. and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Symetra Financial emerged from the sale as Washington state’s third-largest private company.1

"We have a lot to celebrate today," said Randy Talbot, president and chief executive officer. "In less than a year, we successfully completed the transition from our former corporate parent, which culminated in the July homecoming of more than 1,000 Symetra employees to new corporate headquarters in Bellevue. We could not be more excited about our new home and the future."

Today at noon, the Bellevue Economic Partnership — which includes the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, Bellevue Downtown Association, City of Bellevue and Meydenbauer Center, as well as Equity Office Properties — is welcoming Symetra Financial employees to Bellevue with a "Live at Lunch" music program and other festivities.
