What is Symetra Heroes in the Classroom?
Symetra Heroes in the Classroom recognizes 24 Seattle public school teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills during the regular Seahawks season.

Who is eligible?
All K-12 teachers in the Seattle Public School District for the 2009-2010 school year.

Who can nominate a Hero?
All K-12 school principals in the Seattle Public School District.

What are the criteria for selecting Heroes?
Hero selection is based on:

  • Exemplary instructional skills.
  • Outstanding teacher-leadership skills.
  • Innovative instruction that encourages all students to succeed.
  • Proactive parent/guardian outreach.
Awards and recognition:
At each regular season home game during the season, three area teachers will be recognized for their contributions. In addition, Symetra Financial will raise funds to benefit Seattle Public Schools.

Heroes will receive:

  • Two tickets to a Seahawks regular season game.
  • In-game HawkVision (JumboTron) “spotlight.”
  • VIP sideline experience.
  • “Heroes” award certificate and classroom supplies.
  • School visit and program sponsor recognition.

MVP Award:
In addition, each of the schools represented by a 2009 teacher Hero will be eligible to compete for the MVP Award, which provides funding to enhance learning at Seattle schools.

The Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program celebrates teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills.

Throughout the Seahawks season, 24 out of 3,100 Seattle Public School teachers are named Symetra Heroes in the Classroom.

Symetra and the Seahawks also raise funds to outfit Seattle Public School classrooms with books and supplies.
