Flexible limited-benefits plans such as Symetra’s Select Benefits policies can help agents and brokers increase their value to clients by delivering solutions, not just products.

Top producing agents and brokers share a common attribute; they are perceived by their clients as a valuable resource. These producers have learned that clients do not want to see a “one size fits all” product. By creatively addressing clients’ unique needs, these agents and brokers have set themselves apart from their product-centric competitors. As a solutions provider, they partner with their clients in the management of their clients’ business.
Solutions-based producers are constantly looking for flexible tools that help them address the varying concerns of their clientele. Limited benefit plans (LBPs), such as Symetra’s Select Benefits policy, provide a truly unique mechanism to address these concerns. The flexible nature of these plans present solution providers the options they need to create results.
Traditionally, LBPs have been used to cover non-benefited employee groups. However, solutions-based brokers are finding that LBPs (like Select Benefits) can be nicely integrated into the employer’s overall package of health and welfare benefits. Resourceful producers are now using them to supplement high deductible plans1, as coverage for employees in an extended eligibility period, and as an incentive in a Wellness Program.
Additionally, producers are pushing plan designs to the edge with benefits zeroed in on the specific demographics of an employee population. They ask themselves, “What benefits would a group of construction workers need versus a group of home health providers?” One group may value accident benefits over prescription drug coverage and vice versa. A plan designed with these considerations may increase overall enrollment and value to the client.
